The next RTBU’s national member magazine, Transport NOW, is out, and in this edition, we look back at the best of 2025.
Our members set a new bar for pay and conditions across the rail, tram and bus industry. By standing together in 2025, we:
- Returned Adelaide train and trams back to public hands and stopped Tasmania’s bus and rail services from falling victim to privatisation
- Came together to tackle the big issues and shape the future of our union at the 2025 National Council
- Launched our national It’s a Bloody Mess campaign, demanding action for clean, safe and accessible facilities for every transport worker
- Initiated work to develop tools to take back control of technology change in our workplaces
And many more…
Looking back at all that we have accomplished in 2025, certainly feels good, but we aren’t done. And 2026 is looking to be a year full of more wins delivered through union power.
This year is also an important milestone for our union, as we celebrate 165 years since our union was founded. In 1861, 20 Victorian train drivers came together to improve their working conditions. That same resolve lives on in the 35,000 members who make up the RTBU across the country today, united by the same mission to do better for each other.
This is a legacy worth celebrating.
Here’s to another year, and to 165 years of strength through unity.
