Industrial action on Adelaide trams suspended

Tram workers have suspended further industrial action on Adelaide’s tram system following an improved pay offer from the private Operator Torrens Connect.

Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) SA/NT Secretary Darren Phillips said the breakthrough in negotiations came on Monday night (4 September).

Tram workers will now consider the revised offer from Torrens Connect before deciding their next steps.

“Workers have been clear from day one that they wanted to address issues with their conditions, such as the use of split-shifts, and a decent ray rise that reflects the increasing cost of living.

“It was disappointing that workers needed to take industrial action in order to get Torrens Connect to take the issue of pay seriously.

“Public transport workers are passionate about their industry, and take their responsibilities to the travelling public seriously, so industrial action is always a last resort.

“We can assure all tram users that services are now back to normal while members consider the offer.”
