E2026/57 - NOTICE ON USE OF UNION RESOURCES IN ELECTIONS

Candidates and Members are reminded of their obligations under the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009 with respect to the use of union property in elections.

Section 190 makes it an offence for the Union’s property, resources, or finances to be used to help one candidate against another candidate in an election for office or other position.

This means that you can’t for example use union money, union emails, union phones or undertake any campaigning during union to time to help yourself or another candidate in an election over another candidate. You can however use your personal email, personal phone, or campaign in your own time (e.g. before and after work, during lunch).

This notice also serves to advise that union notice boards, and other resources are not to be used for election purposes. If any material has been posted, it should be removed promptly.
