Analysis by the RTBU has found that the Federal Government's reforms to Coastal Shipping will have a significant impact on the rail freight industry - with around 300 jobs in the rail industry at risk.
Australian rail freight providers will have to compete with foreign-flagged ships that don't have to meet Australian standards or pay Australian wages. As a result, Australian jobs will be lost across the transport supply chain - especially in the coastal shipping and long-distance rail freight sectors.
