Tram services in the morning peak will be disrupted tomorrow (Friday  1 September, 2023) as tram workers take industrial action as part of their continuing campaign for fair pay and working conditions.

Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) SA/NT Branch Organiser Hayden Boyle said workers would be stopping work between 4.45am to 7.45am on Friday morning.

“Commuters who use trams in the morning peak are advised to make alternative travel arrangements for tomorrow morning,” Mr Boyle said.

“It is deeply disappointing that we have not been able to resolve this dispute.  Unfortunately workers have now reached the point where industrial action will escalate unless Torrens Connect comes back to the table with a decent offer.”

CPI, not KPIs

Mr Boyle said progress had been made on most of items of the proposed Enterprise Agreement, but the value of the proposed pay rise for workers remained a sticking point.

“Workers are seeking a fair pay rise that keeps pace with the rising cost of living, but Torrens Connect management are digging in their heels.

“Tram workers deserve CPI, not KPIs.

“At this point workers are also planning industrial action for next Tuesday afternoon (5 September, 2023).

“We remain hopeful, however, that a breakthrough can be reached soon so that further service interruptions can be avoided.”
