The Rail, Tram and Bus Union is shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Australian Services Union (ASU) National Secretary David Smith.

Our Union sends it deepest condolences to Mr Smith's family, friends and comrades.

David Smith was deeply committed to the labour movement, and to the advancing the rights of working people.  He also had a strong connection to railways workers, as he commenced his working career as a clerk with Queensland Rail.

David was extremely well-regarded across the union movement for his leadership, wisdom compassion and generosity.

We will be sadly missed.
