Letter to Members regarding COVID-19

Dear Member,

As you would be aware, over the past 48 hours, Federal and State Governments have announced significant developments in their response to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

We are in regular contact with governments and individual operators across the country, and are in the process of working through what these announcements mean for you and your employer. As we work through these issues, our priority is protecting your health, safety and job security.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you are doing to keep our rail, tram and bus networks moving during these unprecedented times. Do not underestimate the critical role you are playing to help Australia get through the challenges ahead.

Rail, tram and bus workers have an essential role to play, but that is why it is also essential that you protect your own health and safety.

If you are not feeling well, please do not put your health and the health of your work mates at risk. Stay at home and seek medical advice.

Likewise, if you are concerned that your employer is putting your health, and the health of others at risk, please contact your Workplace Delegate or Organiser immediately.

Even in these extraordinary times, we will ensure proper processes are followed and enforced, including the terms of your Enterprise Agreements and WHS procedures.

If you have any questions or concerns about this situation, please contact your Delegate or Organiser.

Above all, please take care of yourselves and others.

And please remember you are not alone. If you need to speak to someone, reach out. Your RTBU family is here to support you.

In solidarity

Mark Diamond
