The new Western Sydney Airport will be a major transport asset for Western Sydney and for the Australia's national economy.

The full benefits of the new airport, however, will only be realised if there are high-quality, fast and direct transport links to the site. Heavy rail will need to be a critical part of the transport mix, as heavy rail is by far the most efficient way to transport a large number of people, and because heavy rail offers the best option for reducing traffic congestion on local roads.
